The Barmouth Literary & Debating Society
In 2017, with the Society finally running out of active members it was decided to close the organisation.
The remaining funds held by the Society were split between two local charities:
The Barmouth Food Bank;
The Wales Air Ambulance;
Following the success of our 2015 event we have again secured the services of Pete Churchill for a presentation in 2016.
The society used to meet weekly in the winter at The Dragon Theatre Community Centre.
However by the end of the 2012/13 season the numbers had fallen to the point where the committee felt a change was needed.
For the 2013/14 season therefore the meetings were moved to monthly, October through to July.
Unfortunatly this did not achieve any improvment and by the end of the 2013/14 season there were insufficient members willing to create a viable committee, and the remaining committee members felt that they had no option but to bring the regular meetings to a close.
Not wishing to lose the link to the history of the organisation totally, it was agreed that we would put on an annual evening, using the resources of Barmouth U3A to organise the event.
For 2015 therefore an event was planned for June 18th, the details of which are shown on the poster above.
